The position of Special Faculty Advisor to the Chancellor on Sexual Violence/Sexual Harassment, currently held by Prof. Sharon Inkelas, was created in 2017 on the recommendation of the Chancellor's Senate/Administration Committee on Sexual Violence and Sexual Harassment. The faculty member who holds this position serves as the campus lead for the University’s efforts in providing a safe working, learning, and living environment for students, faculty, and staff that is free from gender-based discrimination.
Sharon Inkelas is a Professor in the Department of Linguistics. Professor Inkelas was a member of the Chancellor’s Senate/Administration Committee on Sexual Violence and Sexual Harassment in 2016. She has also served on the campus and systemwide Academic Senate Privilege and Tenure Committees as well as on the Committee for the Protection of Human Subjects. After chairing the department of Linguistics for eight years, she served for two years as the faculty lead for new department chairs training. She is a member of the Executive Committee of the Linguistics Society of America. Professor Inkelas joined the Berkeley faculty in 1992.
